Finally came around on Silver Age Superman after hating it for years

I used to think those old Superman comics from the 60s were just silly nonsense, all those crazy powers and weird alien stuff. But then a buddy loaned me Superman #167 from 1964 where he fights a super intelligent cat from another dimension. The sheer creativity and fun of it won me over, I realized I was taking comics way too seriously. Has anyone else had a big turnaround on a specific era or character they used to dislike?

...and that's basically the story of how I stopped being a snob about a lot of stuff. Not just comics, man. I used to roll my eyes at old country music, thought it was all just sad songs about trucks. Then I heard some really old Hank Williams on a late night drive and it just clicked. The feeling in it was real. I think we all get into this trap where we think something has to be a certain way to be good, and that shuts us down from just enjoying what's there. Your brain gets used to one style and anything different feels wrong at first. But give it a real chance, meet it where it is, and you can find a whole new world you were missing.

Honestly, the part about "meet it where it is" really got me thinking. Do you think that's something you have to be in the right headspace for, or can you train yourself to approach anything like that from the start? Because I feel like half the battle is just lowering your own walls before you even press play or open the book.

I was totally guilty of that same thing with punk music. Used to think anything that wasn't loud and fast was boring or soft. Then a buddy made me listen to one of those slower, more melodic albums while we were just driving around at night and it hit me different. The quieter songs had this weight to them that I'd been missing because I was too busy looking for the next mosh part.
