Found a box of my dad's old comics from 1995 in the attic last month, and he had a full run of the Clone Saga.

He said he bought every issue from the same shop in Cleveland every Wednesday, even when the story got weird, because he was just that kind of fan.

Yeah I always thought that was dumb but @dakotab93 makes a good point about the loyalty.

Did your dad ever talk about what it was like buying those week to week? I've read the trade paperbacks, but that whole story was built on last minute changes and editorial panic. Getting it in single issues, with all the hype and the "next issue" teases that went nowhere, must have been a totally different, way more frustrating experience. That kind of loyalty, buying every chapter even as it fell apart, is a specific type of comic fan dedication we don't see much anymore.
