Guy at the shop tried to school me on manga, had the timeline wrong

Last Tuesday at Big Apple Comics on 5th, this dude told me One Piece started in 1999. I kept my cool, showed him the first volume copyright page, 1997. He just shrugged and walked off. Anyone else get cornered by a loud know-it-all who can't back it up?

Wait, he really said 1999? That's not even close, that's like saying Dragon Ball Z started in the 2000s. I mean, the Wano arc alone has been running since 2018, you know? And the copyright page thing, that's the ultimate proof. Idk, some people just hear a date once and run with it forever, no checking, no curiosity. Maybe it's just me but that kind of confident wrongness is worse than just being wrong, it's like he didn't even care that the facts were right there in his hands.
