Hot take: I got into a huge debate with my cousin at Thanksgiving over whether a casual MCU viewer counts as a real comic fan.

Last week in Phoenix, he argued that watching the movies is enough, but I said you need to have read at least one actual comic book arc, like 'The Dark Phoenix Saga' or 'Knightfall', to get the full picture and call yourself a fan.

And that's the thing, getting quizzed at a con like that just proves my cousin's point backwards. If the movies are enough to spark real interest, then that guy should have welcomed the new fan instead of scaring him off with trivia.

My buddy got roasted at a con last year for the same thing. He was wearing a Moon Knight shirt, super into the show. Some guy asked him about Marc Spector's deal with Khonshu, like the comic version. My friend had no clue. The guy just laughed and walked off. Felt pretty bad for him. That's the difference, you know? The movies give you the outline, but the comics have all the weird, deep details. You miss the real history.

Wow, so what's the comic version of that deal anyway?

Yeah, that's just gatekeeping nonsense. Robert_scott57, the comic deal is way more messed up than the show.

And now I'm just sitting here wondering how I'd even do in that situation. I've been reading comics for years and I still blank on half the trivia when someone puts me on the spot. It's like my brain just decides to take a vacation the second I need to remember something. Honestly, the only thing I can reliably recall is which issue had the weirdest Spider-Man cameo, and that's not exactly useful for a Moon Knight quiz. Have you ever gotten caught like that with a random detail you totally forgot?
