I finally took my 8-year-old nephew to his first comic con in Cleveland and he got bored after 45 minutes.
I planned the whole day around it, bought the tickets months ago, and spent over $200 on a costume for him. He was excited to see Spider-Man, but the line for photos was 2 hours long. He just wanted to go home and play the new video game instead. Now I'm wondering if I pushed the hobby on him too early. What's a good age to start bringing kids to cons, or should I have done something different to keep him engaged?

I mean, the 2 hour line for Spider-Man would kill anyone's fun, kid or not.

Actually, the line moves pretty fast once you get inside. The preshow areas keep you busy so the wait feels shorter. Have you been on it yet?

Oh man, I'm the worst at lines. I once bailed on a 45-minute wait for a taco just because my own thoughts got too loud, lmao. A two-hour superhero queue would absolutely break me.

That two hour line is the real villain here. Cons are built on waiting, and little kids just don't have the patience for that kind of thing yet. You could have the best costume in the world, but standing still for that long would make any eight year old lose their mind. Maybe try a smaller, local con first where lines are shorter and the pressure is off. The big shows are a marathon, not a sprint for their attention span.
