I used to bag and board every single issue, now I just throw them in a short box loose
For about 8 years I kept every comic in a polybag with a board, even dollar bin stuff. Last winter I moved to a new apartment in Portland and had to pack 14 long boxes by myself, and it hit me how much time I was wasting on books I'd never sell. I tried going bagless for a few months and honestly my reading got way better, I just grab an issue and flip through it without fighting the tape. The one thing I still bag is my Saga run because those covers get wrecked easy. Anyone else make this switch, and did you regret it later when you tried to sell anything?
How many of those 14 long boxes did you actually end up keeping? I did the same thing a couple years back after moving twice in one year, and hauling boxes of bagged books up three flights of stairs made me hate the whole system. Reading is so much better when you can just pull a book out, and I stopped skipping stuff because I didn't want to deal with the tape. When I finally sold a chunk of my run last year the shop didn't care at all, they flipped through and made an offer on the lot. Only thing I still bag is my keys and any book with a dark cover that shows every little scuff. No regrets so far, and my short boxes take up way less space without all that extra plastic.
