My buddy insisted reading the comics in order made them better, I tried it and he was wrong

He told me I had to start from issue #1 of a 1980s run to really get the story, so I spent two months tracking down old issues online. After reading 15 issues in a row, I realized he just liked being a completionist and the middle issues were totally skippable. Has anyone else had a friend give advice about reading orders that turned out to be bad?

What made him think the middle issues were worth reading then?

Fifteen issues in two months? That's commitment, I can barely track down a matching pair of socks in that time. Your buddy and my friend who insisted I eat a whole pizza to "get the full experience" should start a support group.

Started reading a random issue from the middle and it hooked me more than the first twenty did.
