My old comic shop guy told me to buy for the cover, not the story
Back in 2007, this guy Jerry who ran a shop in Akron kept saying, 'Kid, if the cover doesn't grab you in 5 seconds, put it back.' I thought it was lazy advice and ignored it for years. Bought so many mid-2000s books based on hype, ended up with a longbox full of duds I can barely give away. Then around 2015, I started flipping through the dollar bins and his rule actually clicked. Now I pick up like 2 books a month instead of 10, and I actually reread everything I own. Anyone else get early advice that made zero sense until a decade later?
