PSA: I used to hide my comics at work, now I keep them on my desk after a new hire in accounting saw my X-Men mug.

For years, I kept my fandom totally separate from my office job. I'd never mention comics, kept my Funko Pops at home, and used a plain black coffee mug. Then, about six months ago, we hired a new guy in accounting. On his second day, he saw my laptop background (it was a Jim Lee splash page) and just said, 'Cyclops or Wolverine?' We ended up talking for twenty minutes about the Krakoa era. Now I have a small shelf with a few trades on my desk. It turns out a lot more people are into this stuff than I thought, they just needed a signal. How do you guys handle mixing your comic life with your regular work life?

My old boss once found my "Dark Phoenix Saga" trade paperback and just gave me a very long, quiet stare. I kept my stuff in a drawer for the next three years.

Why hide it, @jade_jenkins, when you could have just asked if he'd read it?

Honestly, that sounds like a huge risk. My desk is for work, not a personal museum. You got lucky with one cool guy in accounting, but that quiet stare from jade_jenkins's boss is the REAL common reaction. Keeping it separate is just smart. You're there to do a job, and showing off hobbies can make people question if you're focused. It's not about hiding who you are, it's about keeping things simple and professional. That stuff is for home, not for inviting weird looks or side comments at the office.
