Rant: Saw a kid at my local shop who couldn't name three Silver Age characters a year ago, now he's schooling me on obscure back issues

my buddy mark runs a little shop out of his garage and last summer this 12 year old kid walked in asking for a specific copy of strange tales 114. mark laughs and says he doesn't have it but the kid then starts listing off every issue of nick fury agent of shield from the 60s saying which ones have the best cover art. mark was just standing there with his mouth open because this kid knew more about the obscure stuff than half the regulars who buy from him every week. now the kid comes in every saturday and mark saves him a stack of the weird old books nobody else wants.

That kid in hall.joel's story reminds me of something I've noticed at my local library actually. The younger generation seems to have this laser focus on niche interests that older collectors never really had (you know, before the internet made everything searchable). It's kind of cool how they skip the mainstream stuff entirely and dive straight into the weird deep cuts.
