Saw a kid at the comic shop go from flipping through issues to flat-out reciting Silver Surfer lore in under 6 months

He said reading the Marvel Masterworks line changed everything for him because the old writing made him actually care about the characters, so has anyone else seen a new fan get hooked that fast from a specific series?

The 1960s Ditko Spider-Man run did that for my nephew.

...and it's funny because I've noticed that same kind of thing happening with old games too, not just comics. My buddy's kid got into retro gaming through the original Legend of Zelda and now he can tell you the lore behind every dungeon. There's just something about the simpler, more focused storytelling from back then that grabs people fast, your mileage may vary on what clicks for each person though.

Hang on, is it really that deep? The kid watched a couple of cartoons and read some old paperbacks. I know a guy who could recite every major Silver Surfer storyline after just a month of binging YouTube summaries. He never picked up a real comic in his life. Maybe the kid just found a thing he likes, not some magical "old writing" fix.
