That guy at my LCS told me to stop bagging my silver age books and he was right
Been double bagging my old comics from the 70s for years, thinking more protection was better. Last month a collector at my local shop in Buffalo saw my Silver Surfer #4 and pointed out the extra bag was trapping moisture. He said 'you're just asking for mold' and I laughed it off. Now three of my books have a musty smell and I'm kicking myself. Has anyone else gotten bad storage advice that cost them?

Not gonna lie, I've been double bagging some of my keys for years and never had a problem. Maybe you just got unlucky with humidity or something? Seems like people get a little too paranoid about this stuff sometimes, a little airflow isn't gonna save a book if your house is already damp.

Five years ago I kept my Amazing Spider-Man 129 in a mylar bag with a FULL sheet of cardboard behind it. The cardboard had some acidic content I didn't know about and it slowly yellowed the back cover. I was SO mad at myself. The thing is, most people think MORE protection is better but comics need to BREATHE. Those old poly bags from the 90s are the worst offenders because they offgas and trap everything. Now I only use one Mylites2 bag with a half back board and I leave the top open just a crack for air flow. The big takeaway is that moisture and trapped air will ruin your books WAY faster than any dust or handling ever could.
