The $300 omnibus I bought fell apart in 3 weeks, and I actually prefer it that way

Everyone raves about those thick deluxe hardcovers, but my Absolute Edition from DC split right down the spine after maybe 15 reads. I took it back to Graham's Comics in Portland and swapped it for three floppies of a mini-series I'd never heard of. Honestly, the single issues feel more alive, the ads, the letter columns, all of it. Am I the only one who thinks big fancy collections kill the whole point of reading month to month?
