The guy at my shop said to switch to bagged comics, he was totally right

I've been collecting for about 7 years and always kept everything in those long boxes with the cardboard dividers. My buddy Dan who runs a small comic shop in Dayton kept telling me to switch to the poly bags with the stiff backing boards. I thought it was just him trying to upcharge me on supplies, so I ignored him. Last month I pulled out a 1991 Spider-Man #1 that had been in a box on my shelf, and the corner was bent and the top edge had that wavy crease from the cardboard pressing on it. I checked a few others and same thing. I went back to Dan and he showed me how to properly bag and board everything, and he was like "I told you 3 years ago, the boards keep the spine flat." He was right, my older books that were bagged are in way better shape. Anyone else have a shop owner give advice they brushed off and then had to eat their words later? What was it?

You ever notice how cardboard boxes just slowly destroy the things they're supposed to protect? I was the same way, thought bags were a waste of money, but now I'm kicking myself for not switching sooner.

Man, tell me about it. I once stored a bunch of old photos in a cardboard box and found them all warped and bent months later. That box basically turned into a sponge by the end, so I feel your pain on the switch.
