The guy at the flea market who knew every variant cover price

I was at the flea market in Charlotte last month, and this older guy named Ray had a table full of 90s comics. I picked up a random X-Men issue and he just rattled off its exact value, cover date, and print run without looking it up. He said he'd been tracking prices in a spiral notebook since 1987, over 3,000 entries. It made me realize I rely too much on my phone app and miss the actual stories behind these books. Anyone else met a collector who just had it all in their head?

Ray sounds like a walking treasure. Wish more folks like him were around.
