TIL some comic fans actually rate their local shop by how clean the bathroom is

I overheard this guy at my LCS in Austin last Saturday telling a friend he switched stores because the toilet at the old place was always clogged. He said a shop with a nasty bathroom means the owner doesn't care about details. Is that a real thing people look for or just one dude's weird hangup?

That line about the owner not caring about details is interesting because I once left a shop in San Antonio after the guy running it kept his personal dog behind the counter and it growled at me every time I reached for a longbox.

Used to think that was the dumbest thing to care about until I went to a shop where the bathroom had no soap and the sink was crusted over, and suddenly I couldn't stop noticing other stuff the owner was slacking on too. It's like that dirty bathroom thing is a shortcut for seeing if the guy running the place actually pays attention to anything beyond just moving boxes around lol. Gotta admit this dude in Austin might be onto something even if it sounds weird at first.

100% spot on. That dog thing @spencer981 mentioned is a perfect example - it's all connected. Dirty bathroom or a growling dog, both say the owner just doesn't care about the little things that make a place decent to shop at. It's like the bathroom is a test and most places fail it. Austin dude is probably right that you can judge a whole business by that one room.
