Took a chance on a beat-up Silver Age comic at a flea market in Akron

It was a rough copy of Avengers #4 for twenty bucks, but when I got it home and looked closer under a lamp, I found a tiny, faded signature from Stan Lee on the inside cover (which I totally missed before). Has anyone else ever found a hidden surprise like that in a book they thought was just okay?

Man, that's a crazy find. My buddy bought a water-damaged paperback of Dune at a garage sale because the cover was cool. He was flipping through it months later and a folded, handwritten family tree from the previous owner fell out, with all these notes in the margins about the characters. It was like finding a secret guide.

Wait, wasn't that the first Avengers issue with Captain America? I thought that was number four.

That garage sale Dune had a map drawn inside.
