Unpopular opinion: Comic book fans gatekeep way too much at parties.

It pushes new readers away instead of welcoming them!

Last weekend's party, fans were arguing over which Spider-Man run to gift a newbie.

That bit about voices rising until the neighbor knocked made me smile. I once saw two people nearly come to blows over whether a certain character's hair was blonde or strawberry blond in a graphic novel.

@victor_robinson's experience is common in every fandom.

Watched my friends debate over the best Star Wars movie to show a first-timer. They started with simple points but soon dug into old arguments about special effects and story changes. Voices rose until a neighbor actually knocked on the door to ask if everything was okay. It just shows how these fan talks can spin out of control anywhere. Funny how we all get so wrapped up in fictional worlds.
