3 years ago I swore by steel-toe boots for deck work, but last month's dive in Port Townsend changed my mind

I used to think steel toes were the only safe option until a buddy's boot filled with freezing water after a hose slip. Now I run composite toes with neoprene socks, anyone else switch for comfort reasons?

Yeah @linda_dixon49 knows what's up, alloy toes are a game changer for wet decking.

Losing feeling in my big toes" - that's a step beyond my usual "stubbed my toe on a tool bucket for the fifth time" level of grace.

One thing nobody mentions is how steel toes can mess with your balance on wet decking when they get cold enough. The metal contracts just enough to create a tiny gap at the toe that catches on moisture. I switched to alloy toes after losing feeling in my big toes during a December pier repair in a squall.
