A deckhand called out my gear setup on a job near Port Fourchon

He was like, 'you rig that lazy line to the lift bag wrong every time, man' and showed me a knot I'd never seen in 9 years of diving. We were just waiting for the barge to clear, 40 feet down, and he fixed it in about 90 seconds. Anyone else pick up their best tricks from some random crew kid instead of a supervisor?

Honestly, I get what you're saying about learning from the crew kid, but that "wrong every time" part is a bit much. You've been diving nine years, so your rig probably worked fine, just maybe not the cleanest way. Some of those old-school knots are hard to beat though, and it's smart he showed you something new. Tbh, I've had a junior guy fix my line setup too, and I just nodded and thanked him, even if my way got the job done. Ngl, the best teachers are often the ones who aren't trying to be your boss.
