A superintendent told me to stop hand-signaling during mudmat pours, changed my whole approach

We were doing a 14-hour mudmat pour off Port Fourchon last month and this old superintendent over comms said my arm signals were confusing the crane op, he wanted me to just stay on the radio and keep the hose moving steady. I argued back at first because I've always used hand signals for that diver-to-deck communication, but once I shut up and listened, the pour went way smoother and we finished two hours early. Has anyone else switched from hand signals to radio-only on big pours, or is it just me who got stuck in an old habit?
