Finally passed my ADCI surface supply checkoff at the school in Morgan City after 2 tries
I want to share a small win that means a lot to me. On Wednesday I passed my surface supply air checkoff at the dive school in Morgan City, Louisiana, on my second attempt. The first try 3 weeks ago I panicked during the in-water bailout and flooded my mask, and the supervisor just shook his head and wrote "no" on the sheet. This time I kept my breathing slow, got the bailout done in 52 seconds, and my umbilical never once got tangled on the ladder. What made it feel even better was that my younger brother drove 4 hours from Lafayette just to sit on the dock and watch. Only 6 of the 11 guys in my class have passed this checkoff so far. Anyone here remember their own surface supply test? I would love to hear what tripped you up the first time.
Tbh my cousin went through that same program a few years back and he said the bailout is what gets almost everyone on the first go. He flooded his mask too and had to sit at the bottom for a minute just breathing before he could even think about the hose. His instructor told him the guys who pass are the ones who slow their heart rate down instead of fighting it. 52 seconds is solid, and having your brother on the dock probably helped more than you know.
