Got tangled in my own umbilical at 60 feet in the Mississippi and now I coil it different
Working a pipeline job near Baton Rouge last summer. Visibility was maybe two feet, straight chocolate. I turned to grab a wrench and my umbilical wrapped my left fin and both legs. Took me 20 seconds to figure out which way to spin, felt like an hour. My tender said he watched my bubbles go dead still for a bit and almost called it. After that I started coiling slack in a big loose loop off my right shoulder instead of letting it trail. Anyone else have a close call that made them change how they dress out?
