Had the worst day in the Gulf last month and it changed how I pack gear
Sea state kicked up from flat to 4 footers in 20 minutes near the Eugene Island block. My lift bag lines came untwisted inside a tangled dry bag and I lost 15 minutes trying to sort them out on a bouncing deck. How do you organize your lift bags so they don't turn into a rat's nest when things go sideways?

Started keeping each lift bag in its own mesh bag with the line flaked in figure eights and tied off with a short bungee loop. That way I can grab any bag and throw it without worrying about tangles, even with the deck bouncing. Ever try color coding your bags or lines to speed up selection when it gets hectic?

Color coding is a game changer once you get past the setup. I just use different colored zip ties on the bags themselves and match them to the line spools. Keeps things dead simple even when the deck is pitching like crazy and you can't afford to stare at tags. The mesh bag trick is solid though, especially for keeping everything from becoming a bird's nest in the locker.

Swear by the zip tie method myself. I do the same thing with different colored tape on the spools and matching zip ties on the bags. Makes grabbing the right one a no brainer when things go sideways. The mesh bag thing is smart but I think it adds one more step you don't need when you're already under pressure. Keep it simple and skip anything that takes time to open or close. Why make it harder than it has to be?
