Heard a dive supervisor question my helmet setup, now I'm second guessing myself

I was on a barge off Port Fourchon last month and overheard a supervisor say my Kirby Morgan band mask had too many aftermarket parts, called it a Frankenstein rig. He wasn't talking to me directly, but it got in my head. I've run this same setup for about 400 hours of mixed gas work and never had a failure, but now I wonder if the OEM purist logic has a point with liability. My comms unit is third party and my exhaust valve is a retrofit kit from a buddy in the Gulf. Has anyone else had a client or lead question their gear choices, and did you stick with what worked or switch back to all factory parts?
