Hit 500 dives logged this morning and it hit me different

I was just finishing up a routine hull inspection on a barge in Norfolk harbor and popped up to log it in my book. Number 500. That number just sat there staring at me. I remember sweating through my first dive in a dirty harbor in Charleston thinking I'd never make it to 50. Five hundred dives means five hundred times I suited up, checked my gear, and dropped into water that could kill me if I messed up. It's not just the number, it's all the small lessons that added up along the way. Has anyone else hit a milestone that made you stop and think about how far you've come in this trade?

Water that could kill me if I messed up" really got me. That line hit hard because it's true and most people don't get that. Hitting 500 is huge, what was the biggest lesson you learned somewhere around dive 300 that stuck with you?

Honestly around dive 300 I learned that staying calm is just as important outside the water.

What was the closest you came to panicking underwater?
