Hot water suits, I was wrong about them for 2 seasons

I ran cold water for 7 years in the Gulf. Thought hot water suits were for softies. Then a buddy in Mobile talked me into trying his for a week. The difference in bottom time was crazy. I was coming up shivering after 45 minutes, with hot water I did 3 hours easy. Now I see the cost is the real debate. Is the extra gear worth it for everyone or just deep water guys? What side are you on?

Well now, there's a confession that took some guts to make. I remember telling my dive buddy his hot water unit was just a fancy way to burn money and look like a NASA engineer. Then I tried his rig on a 60 foot wreck and spent the whole dive wondering why I ever thought freezing was some kind of badge of honor. Next thing you know, I'm pricing units online at 2 in the morning. The only thing worse than being wrong is being wrong and cold for seven years, so I'll take the extra gear over a shivering ego any day.
