Learned the hard way about cheap lift bags

Bought a set of lift bags off Amazon for $120. Sounded like a deal. First real job in Port Arthur, lifting a 500lb intake screen. One bag burst at 30 feet. Lost the bag, almost lost my gear. Had to abort the whole dive. Customer was pissed. Rented gear from a shop for the redo. That $120 mistake cost me $400 in rental fees and a day of pay. Anyone else have cheap gear fail at the worst time?

Honestly, that's the story of buying cheap everything these days. You pay a little less up front but it costs you way more in the long run. Seems like the whole "buy once, cry once" thing is true for pretty much anything, from tools to kitchen stuff.

Ain't that the truth. My grandpa's old cast iron skillet is still going strong, but I've burned through three cheap non-stick pans in the last five years. Guess I should've just bought the good stuff and saved myself the headache and the money.
