Mixed gas diving changed my mind after 12 years of air only

Been diving air since 2011. Thought trimix was for rich guys and tech snobs. Then took a 200 foot job near Galveston last spring. Nitrogen narcosis hit me like a brick wall at 140. Switched to trimix on the next deep inspection. Clear head, steady hands, no mistakes. Anyone else hold out on mixed gas for too long?

My uncle refuses to use a dishwasher because "the old way works fine," and honestly that's the same energy as air-only divers. We get so locked into what we know that we treat upgrades like they're admitting defeat, instead of just, you know, being smart about the situation. It took a scary moment at 140 feet for me to finally go, "oh wait, this is just like the time I tried a bread maker and swore by it." The point is, sometimes the stuff we resist the hardest is exactly what saves us from a headache, or worse, a trip to the chamber. Glad you made the switch, nothing wrong with learning the hard way as long as you actually learn.
