Swapped from twin-hose to a new balanced regulator on my last Gulf rig job, totally different breathing experience at depth.

After three years on the same old gear I figured it was fine, but the new setup cut my breathing effort way down around 80 feet and I didn't feel that suction drag on my exhale anymore, how much difference did a good regulator make for you guys?

You ever have that moment where you realize you've been making things way harder than they needed to be? I had a similar thing happen with my BCD inflator valve last year. It was always stiff and I just figured that's how they worked. Turned out the little o-ring was just dried out and crusty. Popped a new one in for like fifty cents and suddenly I could inflate with one finger. Made me wonder what else I've been putting up with that has a simple fix. Glad your new reg worked out though. Makes you trust your gear a lot more when it's not fighting you.

That o-ring fix is such a classic example, lol. How do you tell the difference between a part that's just worn out versus something you've been misusing or ignoring a simple fix for? Seems like the line is always blurry until you actually try replacing that cheap little part.

Buddy of mine swapped regs last summer and said it felt like breathing air instead of soup.
