That time a marina owner inspected my gear like it was a crime scene
Last summer I was prepping for a hull cleaning gig at a marina in Port Townsend when the owner came out and started checking every single O-ring on my Kirby Morgan hat like he was expecting a leak. He actually pulled a magnifying glass from his pocket and said, "I've seen three guys lose comms this month from worn seals, you're not getting in my water with that." Has anyone else had a client or site boss get that intense about gear inspection before a job?

Yeah I've had a few supers like that and honestly you gotta respect it even if it feels over the top. A magnifying glass is a little extra sure but those O-rings are the first thing to go and once you get a pinhole leak at depth comms go dead fast. I started keeping a spare set of rings in my truck and a bottle of silicone grease just to pre-check before anyone else gets a chance to look. Saved me a few times when a boss was about to write me off the day.

Wait he's using a magnifying glass on O-rings? That's actually wild to me. I've been diving for eight years and never once thought to inspect them like that.

Funny how the little stuff always ends up mattering the most, isn't it?
