Vent: Lost a full day to a bad seal on a Kirby Morgan 17
Spent Tuesday swapping a faceport seal that should have taken 30 minutes, but the damn thing had been glued in crooked by whoever serviced it last. Took me 6 hours to get it right with a heat gun and new adhesive. Has anyone else dealt with a botched seal job from a third party shop?

Three weeks ago I spent an entire afternoon fixing a reg that a shop in Morgan City had cross threaded the high pressure port on. @vera_robinson36 I get what you're saying but when you're paying commercial rates for gear service you expect it to be done right the first time. A crooked seal is a sign they rushed it and didn't care about the details.

Aw man, I gotta push back a little here. You said "should have taken 30 minutes" but honestly, a crooked seal on a Kirby Morgan is something you catch before you even leave the shop. If you spent 6 hours fixing it, that means you either didn't check the work before taking it back to the boat or you were too picky about it being perfect. Those third party guys glue in dozens of seals a week, they know what they're doing most of the time. A little crooked doesn't affect the seal's function underwater, it just looks ugly.
