Vent: spent 3 days chasing a leak in my Kirby Morgan helmet because of one tiny o-ring
Last month I did a shallow water inspection job on a pier in Bay St. Louis and kept getting a slow seep into my KM 37 that I blamed on the exhaust valve for two full days, swapping parts and pressure testing over and over. Turned out the whole mess was a hairline nick on the face seal o-ring that I only spotted after using a bright flashlight at an angle on day 3, and it took me 15 minutes to fix once I finally saw it. What tiny thing have you all chased forever before finding it, and do you keep spares of every o-ring size on the boat or just the common ones?
Keeping every o-ring size on the boat is a waste of space and money. Most shops only run two or three helmet models, so you end up with a drawer full of rings you will never touch while the one you need is buried somewhere. A better move is a good light and a magnifying glass, because that nick was there the whole time and no spare part would have helped you find it.
