Went diving at a site in Pensacola last month and the current was way worse than anyone warned me

I did a job down there checking anodes on a pier. The vis was fine but that current had me fighting for 20 minutes just to stay in place. My old supervisor never mentioned spots like that. Anyone else run into surprise currents on Gulf jobs?

Yeah "sneak up on you" is the perfect way to put it... I had a job near Destin once where we were all set on slack tide and then this stupid underwater shelf just kicked everything sideways. Nobody ever talks about how the bottom shape can funnel the current into a spot that's totally calm 50 feet away.

Hate when that happens. Gulf currents can sneak up on you out of nowhere. Glad you made it through okay.

That shelf off Destin has caught more divers off guard than most people realize.
