A customer in Dallas said they fixed their own laptop with a YouTube video

I was at a coffee shop yesterday and heard a guy at the next table tell his friend he fixed his laptop's flickering screen himself. He said he found a 15 minute video on YouTube that showed how to reseat the display cable. He did it with a small screwdriver he already had. It made me think about how many simple repairs people might try on their own now. Have you seen an increase in customers bringing in machines after a failed DIY attempt?

Oh man, this reminds me of my friend's disaster. He tried to fix his Xbox overheating with a YouTube guide. He used the wrong kind of thermal paste, way too much of it, and then stripped a screw trying to get the case back on. The paste got everywhere, like on the motherboard. That thing was a total brick after that. He had to buy a new one.

Actually, thermal paste is non-conductive.

Yeah, that's a rough way to learn. I once used so much paste it oozed out like toothpaste, spent an hour cleaning it up. How much is too much, anyway?
