Chasing a ghost packet for 6 hours, it was a bad crimp the whole time

Last Wednesday I had a client in Austin whose network would drop for 2 seconds every 15 minutes, no pattern, and all my cable testers said the line was fine. I swapped switches, ran new configs, even pulled the NIC drivers from three different machines before I finally cut the ends off and re-terminated that one cable. Has anyone else had a flaky connection that only showed up under a specific cable length or routing path?

It's always the simplest thing hiding behind all the fancy gear.
