Client argued with me for 10 minutes that 'the cloud' meant their files were literally floating in the sky
Had to explain cloud storage three different ways before they finally got it and I started wondering if we need a better name for this. Anyone else run into this level of misunderstanding on a regular basis?

Tbh I once spent 20 minutes explaining wifi to a client who thought it was a type of cheese.

My buddy cleans carpets and he told me about this old lady who asked if her files would get wet when it rained, she really thought cloud storage was literally a cloud. He had to pull up a diagram on his phone and she still wasn't buying it, kept saying "but why call it a cloud then?" Honestly just proves simonp76's point that these tech names are pure nonsense for regular folks. We work with our hands all day and still have to deal with this stuff somehow, it's wild.

Literally floating in the sky" - that's kind of a beautiful image if you think about it. Maybe we're the ones who are wrong for expecting normal people to understand abstract computing concepts. Cloud, stream, cache, these are all terrible names that only make sense to people who already know what they mean.
