Finally got sick of thermal paste spreading methods and just tried the pea method

After 3 years of using the credit card spread technique on every build I did, I finally just dropped a single pea-sized dot in the middle of a Ryzen 5 3600 last week and got better temps by 4 degrees. Has anyone else found that all those fancy spreading tools are just a waste of money?

Haha yeah I feel like the credit card method is just performance art at this point. I did the pea dot on my last build and it worked perfectly, no fuss no mess. Those little thermal paste spreaders are just another thing to lose in the junk drawer.

My buddy tried the credit card trick once. He spent like 15 minutes trying to get it perfectly smooth, then his cat knocked the card off the table and it slid under the fridge. He left it there for two months until the smell started coming out. Now he just does the pea dot too and calls it a day.
