Found a weird fix for a stubborn laptop fan noise at a repair shop in Dayton

We had a customer's gaming laptop that kept making a grinding sound after a full fan swap. The tech next to me, who's been doing this for 15 years, suggested cleaning the tiny mounting posts with isopropyl and putting a tiny drop of sewing machine oil on them, not the bearing. The noise stopped completely. Anyone else run into fan mounts causing noise instead of the fan itself?

That sounds like a temporary fix at best. Wouldn't the oil just attract more dust and cause problems later?

Ugh, that's like half of all life hacks.

Joel's right, most life hacks just create more work later. You'd be better off with a dust cloth.

Yep, that's the thing with so many of these shortcuts, they just kick the can down the road. It's like that old saying about fixing something and creating two new problems in the process.
