I bought a $150 thermal paste kit and it was a total joke
Saw this fancy kit online with five different pastes and a special spreader tool. Thought it would help with tricky laptop repastes. Used it on three different machines, a Dell, an HP, and an old Asus. The temps dropped maybe 2 degrees, same as the $8 tube I always use. Felt like a complete sucker. Has anyone else fallen for a 'pro' tool that did nothing?

My buddy spent $80 on a copper shim kit for his PS5, swore it would fix the fan noise. It shaved off maybe three degrees, same as a fresh dab of paste. Those specialty tools prey on the hope for a magic fix.

Your buddy's story hits close to home. I've seen so many people fall for those pricey "fixes" that promise way more than they deliver. It's frustrating when a simple repaste does the same job for a fraction of the cost. The marketing for those kits really knows how to tap into that desperation for a quiet console.

That copper shim story is too real. Dropped like $40 on a "pro" anti-static mat and wrist strap set for building PCs. My old pink one from the 90s works exactly the same, it just doesn't look as cool in photos. The fancy stuff is just for show most of the time.
