Looking back at that $300 diagnostic tool I bought in 2015

Honestly, it felt like a huge splurge at the time, a proper PCIe diagnostic card with a readout. Tbh, it saved my butt on so many dead-motherboard calls, especially with those weird boot loops on older business desktops. I probably used it on a dozen jobs in the first month alone, paying for itself. Now, with UEFI and all these built-in LEDs and codes, I barely touch the thing. It's just sitting in my kit, a relic. Anyone else have an old piece of gear that was a lifesaver but is now basically a paperweight?

@tara642 what do you think the odds are that diagnostic card still powers up if we ever need it again?

Still use mine on legacy systems all the time.

Totally get it... we have this one old system that still runs on a machine from like 2005. The fan sounds like a jet engine starting up every morning. It's amazing what duct tape and prayers can keep going... honestly kind of respect the stubbornness of it all.

So you're the one keeping all those ancient machines on life support, huh? I picture you in a dusty server room somewhere, like a tech archaeologist. Does it feel more like a museum gig or a hostage situation at this point? Honestly, the fact those old things still run at all is kind of amazing (and a little scary).
