That $50 thermal paste I bought was a total ripoff

Picked up some fancy liquid metal thermal paste from a shop in Austin last month because I thought it would drop my CPU temps by 10 degrees. Turns out my 3 year old paste worked just as good and I didn't even need to reapply. Has anyone else found those high-end pastes are just hype?

Did you actually run a benchmark before and after or just guess it didn't matter? That's the only way to really know if it made a difference.
