That thermal paste application guide everyone shares is actually wrong
I kept getting high CPU temps on builds using that pea-sized dot method from YouTube. After testing 12 different patterns with a $40 thermal imager last Tuesday, I found the pea method leaves huge air pockets on larger IHS chips. Has anyone else seen better results with the spread method even though everyone says not to?

Oh man, my buddy Mike spent a whole weekend redoing his build because of this. He followed that pea method to the letter and his 13900K was idling at 55C. After he tried the spread method on a whim, temps dropped 12 degrees under load. He even sent me a photo of the thermal paste after pulling the cooler off the first time and there were these big dry spots in the corners. Said it looked like a crime scene where the paste just never touched anything.

And Mike's still trying to get the crime scene tape off his CPU.
