The old man at Micro Center still beats my diagnostic software
Was grabbing a SATA cable in Columbus last week and overheard this retiree telling a kid to check the RAM slots with a flashlight before touching any multimeter. He said the tiny dust film on the pins causes half the boot failures he sees, and I laughed until I got home and tried it on a stubborn HP that kept throwing random beeps. Sure enough, two sticks were barely seated with crud on the contacts, cleaned them with a pencil eraser and it posted first try. My $400 diagnostic card never even hinted at that. Anyone else got a trick from an old timer that made your fancy gear look useless?
