Thought the UPS monitoring software was gimmick until it saved a server last Tuesday

I used to think the network management card was overpriced fluff, but ours caught a brownout at 2am and auto-shut down 3 VMs before the power died, has anyone else had one actually save their butt or is this just luck?

Funny enough, ours did the opposite once. We had a power blip during a storm and the monitoring software freaked out, shut everything down before the generator even kicked in. Spent two hours wondering why the office was running on backup power but the servers were dark. The battery status page was just a spinning wheel of death the whole time. Still better than losing data, I guess, but it made me question how much I trust that thing during actual emergencies.
