Took a photo of my server rack cabling 6 months ago vs today... yikes

I dug up an old pic from when I first built it out and the zip ties were a total birds nest, but after swapping to velcro straps and re-routing everything last week it actually looks clean now. Has anyone else had that moment where you look back at your old work and wonder what you were thinking?

Snip snip snip baby, that's the ONLY way to go. Felt like a surgeon freeing a tangled mess and it was SO cathartic.

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with my cable management last year...

That velcro swap is a total game changer, but let me ask you this - when you look at that old birds nest, can you even trace individual cables back to their ports without tracing them with your finger? I had a similar rude awakening when I tried to swap a switch and realized half my tidy-looking runs were just hiding behind the rack posts, all tangled underneath. Did you actually untie every zip tie or did you just snip them all and start fresh? I spent a whole Saturday afternoon cutting off like 40 zip ties and it felt like I was freeing a trapped animal from plastic six-pack rings.
