Warned a client about their backup drive, they ran RAID 0 instead, and 900GB of invoices vanished on Thursday
I set up a client in Boise with a simple 2 bay NAS last summer and told them to run the drives mirrored, but their nephew talked them into RAID 0 for the extra speed. Last Thursday one drive died and every bit of billing data from 2023 and 2024 went with it. A $140 replacement drive would have saved them a $2,300 recovery quote, and the recovery shop could not get it all back anyway. If you install storage for small offices, do you put the mirror setting in writing or just show them the config screen?
