Why did my diagnostic boot drive die after only 3 uses?

Built a USB boot drive with the latest memtest and it hard-failed on the third customer laptop last Tuesday, so now I'm stuck using a cheap 8GB stick from the gas station, has anyone else had a quality USB drive give out that fast or am I just unlucky?

Yeah always thought name brands were solid. Not anymore.

Name brand flash drives have been a real gamble for me lately too. My last "premium" 16GB drive died halfway through a Windows install, which was SUPER fun to explain to the client. I've got a graveyard of dead sticks in my drawer, and honestly my gas station ones have outlasted most of them. Maybe the big brands are just using cheaper chips now, or I'm secretly cursed with bad USB luck. Either way, I feel your pain, this is why I always carry like THREE backups now.
