Appreciation post: the old finisher in Dayton who showed me I was overworking my floats
I spent my first 6 years on the trowel working the float way longer than I needed to because I thought more passes meant a better slab. Last month a 62 year old finisher named Ray on a job in Dayton watched me go back and forth over a 900 sq ft pour and asked why I was beating the mud to death. He showed me one pass with the big float and let the bleed water tell me when to move on, and the finish came out tighter with half the effort. My arms were shot for no reason all those years and I just thought that was the job. Any of you change up your timing after watching somebody older work?
