My daughter asking to float concrete shifted my view on teaching the trade

I noticed more kids are showing interest in concrete work lately. When my daughter wanted to try floating on a patio job, I had to slow down and explain each step. She picked it up faster than I thought, but keeping her focused was tough. Your mileage may vary, but involving family can really change how you work.

The focus part is always the real challenge.

How do you even keep their attention on the float? My nephew wanted to help once and I swear he was checking his phone every two minutes. You're right about that vera_lewis2, the focus thing is huge. I found giving them one small, clear job to finish, like just smoothing one corner, worked way better than trying to explain the whole process at once.

Totally agree with @vera_lewis2, focus is everything.

Actually, I think you meant to tag the original poster, not me. But yeah, giving them one small job is the only way to start.
